au pair agency
Nora Roche
An alternative to being an Au Pair are Student Homestays for intensive English practice while living with a family and working as a volunteer in a workplace.
The Arrangement
A student will live as part of a family and be provided with three meals daily, breakfast, packed lunch and supper for periods normally between two weeks and two months.
During the daytime the student will do voluntary work which is usually in a shop where they gain confidence and experience by speaking and understanding English all day. The hours are generally 9am to 5.30pm with an hour for lunch and tea breaks. Students have found tremendous improvement in their language skills on this programme.
The work place is usually walking distance to the family or a short bus ride. In the evening the student will have a meal with the family and help as the mum is cooking and the student will be involved in normal family life as much as is practical. Host families will generally accommodate one student at a time and occasionally a second student but when this happens the students will be different nationalities.
Students who are positive and enthusiastic and apply themselves to the experience to improve their language communication skills really benefit and it helps them pass their tests as well as having great fun
